Diane Vernon MBE FIEP
Following a distinguished corporate career and eight years working in the third sector, Di created EmployabilityUK; a charity with a fresh approach to raising the confidence, work readiness and aspirations of young people.

Starting from scratch using her own resources, in 2014 Di built a charity that has successfully impacted over 4,000 young people by authentically supporting them to have self-belief, and to be the very best version of themselves.
More than a decade later, Di’s story continues with awards and recognition for her and her volunteer-led charity. In her previous role, Di was responsible for developing education charity – Career Academies UK’s regional strategy and delivering the national programme. Building a team of regional managers, she took the programme to all parts of the UK. She went on to become Director of Business Development. Di led the re-brand which became what is now known as Career Ready.
Di has more than 25 years of corporate business experience from BT and O2, including delivering BT’s education and community programmes. Originally from a working-class background in Birmingham, Di achieved her management and post-grad qualifications through the support of her employer.
She is currently on the People and Skills Board at the Centre for the New Midlands and a Board member of the Business School at the University of Wolverhampton.
Di has held a number of volunteering roles including 6 years as a Special Constable with West Midlands Police. She has held several Board positions as a volunteer including the Association of Education Business Partnerships, Birmingham City University Business School Board, and the Greater Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce.
Di served for four years as an Independent Parish Councillor until 2023 when she decided to concentrate on her charity work, rather than stand for re-election. She continues as an active member of her community, campaigning to protect the local environment and well-being of residents and young people.
In 2022, Di’s passion for and work in supporting disadvantaged young people was recognised with an MBE, awarded in the Queen’s Jubilee Honours.
In 2024 Di was invited to become a Fellow of the Institute of Employability Professionals.
Di’s personal mission is to improve outcomes for young people by embedding employability skills learning into young people’s education prominently and formally from the age of 10 years.
